CARLO MARCHIORI WORKSHOP AT VILLA CA’ TOGA

All Painting and Decorative Art Classes will be held at Carlo Marchiori’s Studio at Villa Ca’ Toga. The Classes will focus on traditional academic techniques Marchiori learned at the Art Institute of Padua and will consist of step-by-step demonstrations and practice of art projects including chiaroscuro, basic perspective, theory of shadows, composition by outline, mass and detail as well as depth effect and painting on furniture. The medium and technique will be acrylic on canvas.

Marchiori will also open his villa with its’ large Salone, Library, Bedrooms and Reception Room, completely decorated with frescoes, for student observation and study as well as the extensive grounds, gardens, pool, statues and fountains.

Courses will run from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

MONDAY : Clouds, Trees & Conventional Landscapes
Canvas: 36” x 50”
Brushwork Technique, Color Choice, Color to Avoid, Composition Planning, Background to Foreground

TUESDAY: A Baroque Panel - A Sculptural Cartouche
Two canvases: 28” x 36” each
Paper Stencil, Drawing and Cutting, Samples of Painted Marble, Logic of Shadow and Depth


WEDNESDAY: A Frieze of Classical Molding and Grotesque
Canvas: 50” x 36”
Three-Dimensional Rendering of Molding, Stencil Technique, Building Subject in Major Brush Stroke, Stressing and Antiquing


THURSDAY - FRIDAY: Trompe L'oelil Vertical Mural on Canvas

Canvas: 50” x 80”
Theory Perspective in Depicting an Archway, a Window and a Balustrade, Logic `of Distance Hazing and Shadow, Vista Effect with Hill, Water, Tree, Rock, Foliage, and Building from Far Background to Foreground


SATURDAY: Students' Choice
Complete the Previous Day’s Project or Practice Plein Aire Painting on the Picturesque Grounds of the Villa

SUNDAY (Optional)
Visit Local Wineries or nearby Calistoga, Tour the Napa Valley, go Hiking, Hot Air Ballooning or enjoy other Wine Country Attractions

50% Required to Secure Reservation. Final Payment due one week before class begins.

1. All acrylic Paints, Canvases & Papers will be provided
2. The student will bring:

- Watercolor medium size brushes # 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
- Flat brushes 2”, 3”, 4”
- Exacto knife & blades
- Sepia pencils
- White chalk sticks
- One roll of 1” masking tape
- One tape measure
- One 36” ruler
- One 24” level
- One 90-degree plastic triangle
- Protective overalls or suitable clothing for painting
