Villa Ca'Toga Grotto Calistoga Ca

Grotto at Villa Ca'Toga Calistoga Ca

On the ground of the villa, Commedia dell’ Arte figures adorn columns and gates in the sculpture courtyard. The archways represent Pantalone and Arlecchino (left). The busts are of Pulcinella-stock characters of the early Italian Theater. This head of Pan (right) glorifies pagan nature with joyful spontaneity.

Pulcinella (left) is a recurring subject in murals and paintings throughout the Villa. Trojan Horse (right) is another garden 'folly' standing 20-feet high and built of reinforced concrete. On the edge of the property the deer made of stone will catch you by surprise. The antler is real. (below)
